General Summary of PositionResponsible for developing implementing and conducting outpatient oncology nutrition services to the Washington Cancer Institute(WCI) by offering nutrition consultation services for patients/family members and serving as resource to the medical nursing and administrative staff. Coordinates community education outreach and research initiatives in nutrition as part of WCI's cancer control and community outreach programs. Monitors the effectiveness of the WCI Nutrition Program prepares various administrative reports and serves on relevant committees. Establishes and maintains quality nutrition programs and standards in compliance with MWHC policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and implements Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) consistent with the needs goals and comprehension level of patients. Provides counseling for patients and their families demonstrating knowledge of age disease-specific physiological and psychosocial development and cultural considerations.Monitors patient progress and develops follow-up recommendations for continuing nutrition care.Confers with medical and nursing staff in coordinating patient nutritional care. Participates in medical rounds/conferences. Conducts nutrition in-service for medical staff (including residents medical students and nurses).Continuously evaluates the delivery of nutritional services and referral process and provides input to the Patient Support Services Department Head about workflow procedures and implementation of these procedures and other policies and decisions as needed.Contributes to WCI's Nutrition Program Plan by suggesting/developing new programs/systems to improve the quality of patient care efficiently.Prepares and submits quarterly reports to various committees and administration.Demonstrates effective communication skills with all team members patients and families through conferences charting individual consultation and participating in interdisciplinary committees and projects.Supports adherence to nutritional service policies and procedures to ensure compliance with JCAHO and MWHC. This includes periodically reviewing charts to ensure compliance with established standards of care JCAHO and MWHC & WCI policies and procedures.Establishes annual goals in line with patient needs MedStar and departmental goals. Sets priorities and deadlines for completion of these goals.Maintains routine communication with Department Head regarding status of clinical programs and other programmatic needs. Collaborates with department staff to ensure optimal delivery of nutrition to patients.Develops and presents lectures/presentations/health fairs for employees healthcare Professionals and the public.Attends meetings/conferences utilizes library resources reviews professional journals etc. in order to maintain current knowledge of advancements and changes. Minimal QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in an American Dietetics Association approved program in Dietetics with completion of an internship required
Experience- 1-2 years of previous experience providing nutrition therapy in a clinical setting preferably in acute care (as obtained in dietetics internship) required
- Oncology experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications- Dietitian DC DOH - DIETDC required
- RD - Registered Dietician by the American Dietetic Association as a Dietitian required
- Certification in Oncology Nutrition preferred
This position has a hiring range of : USD $74,214.00 - USD $134,596.00 /Yr.
