Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• Flu vaccination required for submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience required; if strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred but not required.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Up to 7 days off may be approved excluding blackout dates; NM/Eanh approval required for blackout dates. Blackout dates during this assignment include Thanksgiving: 11/26-30 and Christmas and New Year’s: 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: Patient ratios typically are 1:4 and may be 1:4-6. Lower ratios come with the expectation that RNs turn patients and assist with baths and ADLs. Possible home units include 6 North Trauma Surgical with general surgery and vascular surgery patients; 5 South Neuroscience with CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative disease, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; 5 North MedSurg/Oncology with MS/oncology, palliative care, alcohol withdrawal, and other high-acuity fast-paced MedSurg patients; 3 South Orthopedics with joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology with urology, ENT, orthopedic, and MedSurg patients. Unit skills and procedures may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG tubes, trach care, IV starts, blood draws from central lines, ostomy care, surgical site care, C-collars, abdominal binders, restraints, PCA pumps, negative pressure dressings, drains, foleys, wound vacs, CVL dressing changes, and chemo administration if certified. Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hours strip reading. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors. CNA support when available is 1:10-12; charge nurse rarely takes an assignment, and phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist support are available.

Shift & Scheduling: Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to like units/patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
