Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted with minimum 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU with Epic or Cerner experience. If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemotherapy experience strongly preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter weekend 4/18-20; Mother’s Day weekend 5/10-12; Memorial Day week 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day weekend 6/14-16; Fourth of July 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend 8/30-9/1; Halloween 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval.

Unit Details: 6 North Trauma Surgical: general surgery and vascular surgery patients; ratio 1:5-6; trauma/surgical experience with wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; ratio 1:5-6; IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tube, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints. 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: MS/oncology, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, and all patient types except stroke and MI; ratio 1:6 for RNs and LPNs; trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemotherapy administration if certified; telemetry monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on the ground floor. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: general MedSurg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; ratio 1:5-6; tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. 3 South Orthopedics: orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies, and similar cases; ratios 1:5 and 1:6 if medsurg; PCA pumps, wound care with negative pressure dressing, dressing changes, foley, and drains including hemovacs/JP drains. 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg patients; ratio 1-5:6; trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven foley protocol. RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings q4 hours. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. 4 week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling; uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: May float to any like unit/patient location: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
