Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: - First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience. If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. - 6 North Trauma Surgical: At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience. Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. - 5 South Neuroscience: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints. - 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, Foley catheters, IV starts; chemo administration if certified. - 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: Tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tubes, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. - 3 South Orthopedics: PCA pumps, negative pressure dressing, dressing changes, Foley catheters, and drains including Hemovac/JP drains. - 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: Trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven Foley protocol.

Preferred Skills/Experience: - 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: Chemo experience highly preferred but not required.

Special Requests: - Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. - Only 1 active application is allowed for the same position on the same unit and shift at the same facility. Example: if you apply for day shift, you may also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. - Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; NM/Eanh approval is required for blackout dates. - Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter weekend 4/18-20; Mother’s Day weekend 5/10-12; Memorial Day week 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day weekend 6/14-16; Fourth of July 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend 8/30-9/1; Halloween 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1. - Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival.

Unit Details: - Typically 1:4 ratio; with the lower ratio, RNs are expected to turn patients and assist with baths and ADLs. - Float pool coverage may include trauma/surgical, neuroscience, MedSurg/oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and MS/ortho/urology units. - Patient populations include general and vascular surgery; CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; MedSurg/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal; COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; and urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg patients. - Telemetry monitoring is on hallway monitors and by telemetry techs on the ground floor; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours. - Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: - Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. - Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. - No call. - One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. - 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, utilizes Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: - Float to any like unit/patient location: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
