Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 24 months of Medical Surgical / Telemetry Unit experience.

• 3 months of travel experience is required.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• BSN completion preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a District of Columbia license (required for submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Local & travel allowed. Candidates living <60 miles from facility will be processed as local.

• 12 months gap required between for Staff at Program: Aya Program - MedStar Health and no current placement allowed at Program: Aya Program - MedStar Health.

Additional Details:

References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years. Manager may or may not interview. Clinician must be okay with this. If clinician has questions, please email the AM. You must be able to complete labs within 48 hours of signing.

Required Skills/Experience: Cardiac telemetry, interpretation of dysrhythmias, feeding tube care and management, IV therapy to include PICC line and peripheral line management, and IV start.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Previous Charge Experience: Preferred.

Required Credentials: EKG test required during orientation; must pass to work on unit. For DC locations – You must have DC license in hand, but certain units accept pending (See JD). MedStar will usually accept a later booking date if you have applied for DC licensure. For MD Locations – You must have compact license or MD license.

Unit Details: Adult and geriatric patient population. General Medicine/Telemetry unit caring for adult patients with complex, wide-ranging, multisystem diagnoses, including patients needing continuous pulse oximetry and telemetry. Unit can accommodate patients requiring close observation and blends general medicine care with other specialized disciplines to provide comprehensive care. Cares for patients with pneumonia, respiratory conditions that may include isolation (TB, flu, COVID-19), COPD, CHF, hypertensive emergencies, endocrine disorders, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, acute pancreatitis, GERD, urinary tract infections, sepsis, hepatitis, chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, stroke, TIA, neurological conditions, hematological conditions, electrolyte imbalances, and autoimmune disorders. Nurses will be expected to provide care for patients requiring special isolation precautions. Nurse to patient ratios 1:5 or 1:6. Patient care technician support: 2-3 per shift. Uses Pyxis.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend. 6 weekend shifts per contract. Weekend shifts are considered Saturday (AM or PM) or Sunday (AM or PM).

Floating Requirements: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.

All time off requests must be submitted at application. Scheduling requests must be worked out with the manager directly upon starting the assignment. Any offers for this job will require a clear “Yes” or “No” response from the nurse within 24hrs or the offer must be declined.
