We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to join our team, providing leadership and support to our Home Teams. This position is key in driving clinical excellence and improving patient outcomes while ensuring that our hospice services remain a trusted resource for the community.

Job Summary:

The Nurse Manager for Bridging Life Hospice will oversee the Home Teams, contributing to the development and review of nursing protocols, procedures, and standards of care. The role also involves managing educational opportunities for staff, assisting with the departmental budget, coordinating performance improvement initiatives, and ensuring optimal staffing and resource management. You will serve as a clinical leader, role model, and support for nursing staff, ensuring that patient care remains of the highest standard and is aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Protocol & Procedure Development:

  • Coordinate or contribute to the development, implementation, and annual review of nursing protocols, procedures, and standards.

  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with quality care measures and hospital policies.

Staff Development & Education:

  • Develop and/or implement educational opportunities for nursing associates, fostering continuous learning and professional development.

  • Create and evaluate annual goals/objectives for nursing staff in line with the Carroll Hospital Center Business Plan.

Budget & Financial Oversight:

  • Assist in developing and managing the departmental budget.

  • Review monthly budget variance sheets, providing justification for both positive and negative variances.

Performance Improvement:

  • Coordinate and track performance improvement activities, reporting progress and deficiencies to unit leadership.

  • Work closely with Unit Director and/or Vice President to address deficiencies and develop corrective action plans.

Staffing & Scheduling:

  • Coordinate and prepare work schedules for associates, ensuring timely and accurate staffing.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to meet unit needs, including adjustment to staffing levels as necessary.

  • Facilitate monthly staff meetings with the Unit Director to promote team communication and address any concerns.

Human Resource Management:

  • Collaborate with the Unit Director in applying consistent and fair disciplinary processes.

  • Participate in the recruitment process, interviewing and hiring staff as appropriate.

Clinical Competence & Leadership:

  • Demonstrate and support clinical competence by directly participating in the nursing process or by guiding care planning with the team.

  • Monitor staff compliance with nursing processes, ensuring documentation and care delivery meet JCAHO standards.

  • Act as a role model for flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude toward change in nursing practice.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, physicians, and visitors, utilizing proper channels to resolve issues and make suggestions for improvement.

  • Foster positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships to enhance both patient and associate outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) required; Nursing Leadership experience preferred.

  • Licensure: Current Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license.

  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
