JOB SUMMARY

The Peer Recovery Coach provides non-clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery from alcohol and/or drugs. The Peer Recovery Coach will work as part of the Emergency Department team to provide peer support and motivation to encourage patients who are seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues. The Peer Recovery Coach will assist in completing referrals to treatment services and developing plans to promote successful linkage to treatment and recovery support services. Services will be provided in the Emergency Department with appropriate follow-up.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Preferred High School Diploma
  • Preferred GED
  • Less than 1 year Required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with sustained abstinence and a minimum of three years demonstrated personal recovery from alcohol and/or drug use. Peer Recovery Specialist certification is not required at time of hire but must be obtained within 18 months. CPR AHA Healthcare Provider required. Excellent interpersonal skills required Excellent organizational, communication and data entry skills. Detail oriented. Able to relate to diverse audiences, including patients and health professionals, as well as an ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, as well as good problem-solving skills. Able to read, interpret documents and write routine reports. Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and an interest in acquiring new skills.
