Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Cath Lab/IR Manager/Designee, the Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients experiencing cardiac or interventional radiology procedures upon admission to the department. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process in ensuring safe and competent quality patient care. The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization/IR Laboratory supports the medical care of all patients requiring any cardiac or peripheral intervention under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. This individual maintains a complete Intraoperative record and is responsible for the patient during the pre-operative, intra-operative and immediate post-operative period. This person ensures a safe environment for the patient and others, and appropriately communicates with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments and patient family members. 

What you will do in this role:

  • Records informative, accurate and concise nursing observation and reports observations to appropriate people.
  • Receives physician orders either written or by telephone.
  • Records and carries out as ordered.
  • Keeps immediate manager or designer informed of patient care problems.
  • interacts and communicates appropriately and effectively with other departments and coordinates patient schedules based on the needs of the individual patient.
  • Anticipates and communicate needs for patient teaching to physicians and receiving unit.
  • Interacts and communicates appropriately and effectively with health care teams to keep them informed of changes in the patient’s plan of care.
  • Delivers organized pertinent reports in a timely manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for discussing, clarifying and/or questioning medical therapy through effective communication with physicians.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse
  • Graduate form an accredited School of Professional Nursing
  • BLS Certification
  • 1 year of acute care hospital experience
