General Summary of PositionThe WOCN Clinical Specialist will function in the role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Wound Care Program Manager to establish standards of care and clinical competencies to meet patient needs and training programs to ensure clinical expertise. Provides consultation to all branches for complex wound ostomy and incontinence patients according to referral criteria and WOCN standards. Takes a leadership role in development coordination and monitoring of the wound care program and monitors and works to improve clinical outcomes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.In collaboration with medical staff develops and implements the wound care program to include patient care protocols documentation tools wound care formulary and WOCN referral criteria.In collaboration with medical staff Establishes standards of care competencies policies and procedures in quality cost-efficient and effective wound care for all clinical staff including: Clinical/Therapy Managers Registered Nurses and Physical Therapists.Provides basic wound care training and orientation to all new nursing and therapy staff on hire.Makes recommendations to the physician for changes to wound care orders and provides evidence based research support as needed.Develops and implements tools to ensure effectiveness of wound care program on ongoing basis to include chart review and monitoring of data.Participates in agency quality improvement activities including maintaining and reporting pressure ulcer prevalence and occurrence rates.Chairs the Skin Protection Task Force.Provides ongoing in-services and training related to wound care ostomies and incontinence to include basic orientation to wound care program. Minimal QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
- Master's degree in nursing from an NLN-accredited program with a clinical focus preferred
Experience- 3-4 years Licensed professional nursing experience required
- 3-4 years Experience in wound care management and education preferred
- Broad clinical background and pain management experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in Maryland or licensed eligible required
- CWOCN - Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse through a recognized WOCN Program within 1 Year required
- WCC - Wound Care Certified preferred
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification preferred
This position has a hiring range of : USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
