Job Summary and Qualifications
What you will do in this role:
- Act as a central contact point for callers into the Operating Room.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties to facilitate patient care in the operating room.
- Check inventory and stock all forms and supplies daily.
- Serve as main liaison between surgeons, office staff, operating room, and ancillary departments.
- Schedule in-patient surgical procedures for the department.
- Enter correct patient information into computer.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and estimate time involved.
- Accurately schedule procedures.
- Compile monthly reports using statistics from various reports. Distribute to required individuals.
- Maintain Surgical Services Communications Board.
- Relay information in a timely, accurate manner to appropriate individuals.
- Answer telephone, take messages, and/or route calls to appropriate personnel.
- Notify individuals of stat calls.
- Inform appropriate personnel of changes in the surgery schedule.
- Type correspondence, policies and procedures for the surgery department as needed.
- Assist with updating “call list” for O.R., Anesthesia, PACU and CSS on the computer.
- Order and stock stationary supplies.
- May perform ordering and patient charging in the absence of the materials manager.
- Where applicable, compute payroll, perform appropriate edits, and transfer information to the payroll department within specified time frame.
- Keep department manager informed about problems or concerns related to payroll practices.
- Assist the service coordinators with personnel attendance and payroll records and keep them up to date.
- Assist the Board runner with calls to maintenance, biomed and other service areas.
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
- Current BLS required (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation).
- Proficient typing and computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office systems) required.
