Required Skills/Experience: Must be able to read and interpret strips and have experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Experience with TR Bands is a strong plus.
Special Requests: Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers. All time-off requests must be made up front and included in the contract. Requests for time off after this must be approved by the facility; the manager may consider occasional requests for a day off based on the needs of the unit.
Unit Details: The unit is a med-surg and cardiac observation unit. Patients include pre-/post-cath cases, chest-pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacemakers, arrhythmias, and other medical-surgical diagnoses. Common drips include set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone, with occasional Bumex and Lasix. The unit has a monitor for real-time viewing. Nurse aides perform EKGs, bladder scans, finger-stick blood sugars, activities of daily living, and all vital signs. Nurse aide coverage is 1:10, sometimes 1:14-15 depending on census and staffing. The unit does not use high-flow oxygen; BiPAP and CPAP are used for supportive therapy only, and patients dependent on them would likely be transferred to a higher-acuity unit. The unit is very busy and fast-paced, with up to 6 discharges per day and 6+ admissions.
Shift & Scheduling: Travelers are scheduled every other weekend; day weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday. Call or standby may occur if census is low, but not often; it would be specified in the contract.
