ON CALL POSITION (PRN)
JOB SUMMARY
The Transporter is a functional position accountable to the basic standards of practice for transporters. The transporter assists in the transporting of patients throughout the hospital. Responds to all codes. Secures appropriate equipment when asked. Orients new personnel in accordance with performance standards. Participates as a member of the patient care team taking into consideration needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Follows departmental protocol when transporting patients' equipment and specimens using two forms of patient identification and Ticket to Ride. Informs the patient and/or family member of the transport destination being cognizant of the patient's age, ethnic, cultural and social background when engaged in conversation. Reports unusual occurrences or unusual patient behavior during transport to appropriate personnel. Obtains all appropriate transport equipment in a timely manner. Inspects all equipment prior to using it. Identifies active/potential problems and reports them appropriately. Effectively communicate with colleagues, nursing staff, physicians, visitors etc. Accurately communicates patient information as shifts progress and change. Maintains patient privacy by appropriately covering the patient and provides comfort by positioning them using pillows and blankets as needed. Assists with lifting and placing the patient onto transport equipment utilizing safe techniques. Must be trained to use all safe lifting equipment.
