General Statement of Duties:
The Ultrasound Technologist (sonographer) performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will demonstrate and maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures on the population(s) served by the department and may include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable) and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment. He/she participates in the quality control of the ultrasound department.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
1. Education: ONE of the following: Hires as of October 1, 2011 – A. Successful completion of training program in either:
1. Ultrasonography
2. Radiologic Technology
3. Vascular Technology
B. Associates of Science or higher degree Hires prior to October 1, 2011 – A. Successful completion of training program in either:
1. Ultrasonography
2. Radiologic Technology
3. Vascular Technology
4. Medical Assisting
B. Associates degree or higher degree
2. Experience: None required
3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
4. Preferred: Two (2) years of experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred
