Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 3 months of Epic experience is preferred.

• High School completion required.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a cath/EP lab required. Must be able to scrub for all types of heart caths, peripheral vascular, structural heart, and EP procedures.

Required Credentials: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health Sciences (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, or Cardiac or Vascular Sonography, or equivalent academic program and experience.) Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Radiology Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI). Valid BCLS certification required/ACLS certification required within six (6) months of hire.

Unit Details: Cardiac Cath Lab work involves cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology, common cardiac pathologies, cardiac medications and their pharmacokinetic actions, and thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction. The role includes recognizing ECG waveform morphology and lethal arrhythmias, interpreting ECG changes associated with heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarction, and responding appropriately to cardiac arrest and lethal arrhythmias using ACLS standards when warranted. The technologist recognizes and alerts physicians to abnormalities in arterial blood gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, and creatinine values. The role includes monitoring patients during diagnostic cardiac catheterization and percutaneous intervention, identifying coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections, identifying cardiac pressure waveforms, and calculating basic hemodynamic parameters. The role includes performing cardiac output, oxygen saturation, and activated clotting time (ACT) measurements; recording catheterization events in the database computer; and setting up the supplies and table for diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Procedures include PTCA, directional atherectomy, mechanical rotational atherectomy, electrophysiologic testing, permanent pacemaker implantation, therapeutic ablation of dysrhythmias, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator procedures. The unit uses AngioJet, Rotoblator, laser revascularization devices, intravascular ultrasound, Doppler velocimetry, and a Cath Lab fluoroscopy system. The unit uses the Merge Hemo documentation system. The role includes assisting with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff, special projects, and may include participation in relevant committees.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekday schedule with one variable weekday off per week. On-call required: 1 weekend per month (5p Friday–6:30a Monday) and 4 weeknights per month (5p–6:30a next day). No weekend commitment outside of on-call.
