Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 18 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 2 years of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience with 1 month within the last 12 months.

• Experience with Epic is required.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Wisconsin license or compact license (required for submission).

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations

• Local & travel allowed.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: Required skills include chest tube management, stable tracheostomy management, IV skills, port/central line care, CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo knowledge (RT will manage the equipment), Foley insertion and care, feeding tube care, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Comfort with managing insulin and heparin/argatroban drips is required.

Special Requests: Block scheduling will be considered if requested, but is not guaranteed. RTO requests must go through the manager.

Unit Details: The role will not have to administer chemotherapy but will care for oncology patients and patients receiving chemotherapy. Some pediatric patients older than 1 year are on the floor; no pediatric experience is required, and travelers will not take pediatric patients. Common surgical cases include gallbladder procedures, appendectomies, colectomies, ostomies, and TURPs. General medical cases include cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, COPD, and outpatient antibiotic/fluids infusions. Observation cases include chest pain, dizziness, and syncope. Orthopedic cases include total hip, total knee, and shoulder procedures. Neurologic cases include spine surgeries, strokes, altered mental status, and TIA-versus-stroke observation. Cardiac post-procedure cases include cath, TEE, and cardioversion. General cardiac cases include heart failure, chest pain, and cardiac arrhythmias. Cardizem and amiodarone drips are titrated on the unit. Patient ratios are 1:4-6 on days and 1:6 on nights. CNAs can take vital signs and perform blood glucose checks but do not insert or remove IVs. Charge nurses take patient assignments, which may be full or reduced. Phlebotomy performs peripheral lab draws. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalists are available 24/7 and communicate through secure chat. OT, PT, and ST are available on weekdays, with limited weekend hours. Remote telemetry monitoring is provided by a tele tech; if tele tech staffing is short, nurses may be asked to monitor patients. Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation: Every 3rd weekend. Holiday requirements: 2 holidays/year. Schedules are made 4-6 weeks at a time and provided 2 weeks in advance. May be put on call for a shift and must arrive within 30 minutes when called in.

Floating Requirements: Position floats between Medical/Surgical Units (MS1, MS2, GLMS, CMS2, IP Holdover).

14 days maximum time off
