Experience:
• 18 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.
• 18 months of Medical Surgical / Telemetry Unit experience with 1 month within the last 12 months.
• Experience with Epic is preferred.

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations
• Local & travel allowed. Candidates living <50 miles from facility will be processed as local.

Required Skills/Experience: - Ortho experience and spinal precautions required for 7N/S Ortho. - General Med/Tele skillset: stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management), PCA pumps. - Medication gtt management to include cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF.
Preferred Skills/Experience: - Travel experience preferred; first-time travelers will be considered.
Unit Details: - Resource team supports ADTU, 7N/S Ortho Surgical, 6S Medical Telemetry, 5N Surgical Telemetry, 4N Cardiac Medical Telemetry, 3N Medical Telemetry, and 2N Medical. - ADTU: Med/Tele overflow area supporting all inpatient units/ED holding; diagnoses include CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke signs/symptoms, and respiratory issues; testing is prioritized. - 7N/S Ortho Surgical: General medical overflow and surgical patients including total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), spinal surgery (laminectomies, discectomies, fusions), and shoulder procedures. - 6S Medical Telemetry: COPD, respiratory illnesses, diabetic ulcer, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, altered mental status, ESRD. - 5N Surgical Telemetry: General medical telemetry overflow; surgical patients include bariatric weight loss surgery, urology procedures, general post-op, abdominal surgeries, GI bleed, small bowel obstruction, and foot and ankle surgery. - 4N Cardiac Medical Telemetry: Congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, hypertension, stroke, cardiac arrhythmias, endocarditis, and initial cardiac workup for chest pain and/or shortness of breath; includes prepping patients for cardiac stress tests. - 3N Medical Telemetry: End stage renal disease, PD, fluid overload, sickle cell, diabetes mellitus, altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, pancreatitis, and behavioral health. - 2N Medical: Med/Tele observation and Horizons Detox; patient types include new diagnosis diabetes mellitus, chest pain, rule-out stroke, abdominal pain, GI bleed, detox, suicidal ideation, and altered mental status. - RN ratio 1:5-6 (critical surge 1:7-8); CNA ratio 1:6-12. - Uses Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Phillips monitors. - Department support includes CNA, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, IV/VAT team (11a-7p, 11p-7a), RT and hospitalist 24/7, intensivist in house until 11p M-F and 7p Sat/Sun with VCC coverage and on-call intensivist; no telemetry tech.
Special Requests: - RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays; must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours.
Shift & Scheduling: - Every other weekend. - No call. - Travelers will work 75% of holidays. - Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks.
Floating Requirements: - Float to all units within scope at Mercy and within Region 3 - Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH) - as needed, within scope of practice.
