Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is required.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted with minimum 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience. If experience is strictly ICU, Cerner is required. 6 North Trauma Surgical requires at least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemotherapy experience strongly preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). If you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Must be away from Baptist for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; time off for those dates is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval. RTO during the following dates requires approval: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 1/19; Valentine’s Day week: 2/13 -15; Entire month of March; Easter Weekend: 4/3 - 4/5; Mother’s Day Weekend: 5/8-10; Memorial Day week: 5/23 – 5/25; Father’s Day Weekend: 6/19-21; Fourth of July: 7/3-7/5; Labor Day weekend: 9/5-9/7; Halloween: 10/30-11/1; Thanksgiving: 11/25-11/29; Christmas and New Year’s: 12/18-1/1.

Unit Details: 6 North Trauma Surgical: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries; patient ratio 1:5-6; wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; patient ratio 1:5-6; IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints. 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: MS/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal patients; all patient types except stroke and MI; patient ratio 1:6 for RN and LPNs; trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, chemo administration if certified, and tele monitoring on hallway monitors with tele techs on the ground floor. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: General MedSurg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; patient ratio 1:5-6; tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tubes, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. 3 South Orthopedics: Orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; patient ratio 1:5 and 1:6 if MedSurg; PCA pumps, wound care with negative pressure dressings, dressing changes, Foley care, and hemovac/JP drains. 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: Urology, ENT, orthopedics, and MedSurg patients; patient ratio 1:5-6; trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, and CVL dressing changes. Support includes CNAs (1:6 for vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry techs; RNs interpret and confirm telemetry strips every 4 hours. Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Schedule runs on a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling; uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

7 days maximum time off.
