Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: - First-time travelers accepted. Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience required. If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. - 6 North Trauma Surgical: At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience. Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations required. - 5 South Neuroscience: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints required. - 3 South Orthopedics: PCA pumps, wound care with negative pressure dressings, dressing changes, Foley care, and drains (Hemovacs/JP drains) required. - 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: Trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, and CVL dressing changes required. - RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings q4 hours.

Preferred Skills/Experience: - Chemo experience highly preferred but not required.

Special Requests: - You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. - Must be gone for 6 months from last shift worked to start date before returning as a traveler. - Holiday requests off prior to arrival are not contractually guaranteed. - Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter Weekend 4/18-20; Mother’s Day Weekend 5/10-12; Memorial Day week 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day Weekend 6/14-16; Fourth of July 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend 8/30-9/1; Halloween 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1. - Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; NM/EANH approval required for blackout dates.

Unit Details: - Typical ratio is 1:4; RNs are expected to turn patients and assist with baths and ADLs. - Float pool units may include 6 North Trauma Surgical (general surgery and vascular surgeries); 5 South Neuroscience (CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, angiogram); 5 North MedSurg/Oncology (all patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/oncology, high acuity fast-paced unit, 1:4-5 RN/LPN ratio, tele monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on the ground floor, chemo administration if certified); 3 South Orthopedics (orthopedic and spine, including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies); 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology (urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg). - Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors. - Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs.

Shift & Scheduling: - Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. - Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. - No call. - One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. - 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling; uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: - Float to like units/patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
