Unit Details: If the medical-surgical census does not support the assignment, the clinician may be assigned inpatient rehabilitation patients. Patient ratios are 1:4 on medical-surgical and 1:6 on inpatient rehabilitation; these ratios are frequently adjusted based on the level of care required and reviewed twice daily during staffing. Common diagnoses/patient types include total knee, hip, and shoulder cases, CVAs, encephalopathy, lumbar fusions, and “clean” medical-surgical patients when bed needs necessitate. Telemetry is monitored by off-site monitor technicians, who notify nurses when rhythm variations are detected. Respiratory therapy handles nebulizer treatments and CPAP setup.
