Unit Details: Patient ratios are 1:4 on Med-Surg and 1:6 on inpatient rehabilitation; these ratios are frequently adjusted by the level of care required by the patient and reviewed in staffing 2x/day. Common diagnoses include total knees, hips and shoulders, CVAs, encephalopathy, and lumbar fusions. The unit also accepts clean medical-surgical patients when bed needs necessitate. If Med-Surg census does not support the assignment, the clinician may be assigned inpatient rehabilitation patients. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Respiratory therapy is responsible for nebulizer treatments and CPAP setup. Off-site monitor technicians monitor telemetry; strips are run once a shift, reviewed, and placed in the record. Monitor technicians call when any rhythm variation is noted.
